Selfridges / Manchester Beauty Hall
Selfridges 20,000sq ft beauty and fashion jewellery hall in the lower ground floor of its Manchester store, doubled the beauty brand space and lifted the presentation up several notches with a glamorous and serene environment designed by HMKM.
Beauty is a key floor for department store retailers. This move from the ground to lower ground floor meant that Selfridges and HMKM had to work all the harder to ensure its impact and allure was undiminished.
Says Christian Papa, Director, “The opening-up of the front atria creates fantastic views down to the Beauty & Accessories space, an area flooded with natural light." Glass balustrades either side provide views down to the buzz of the beauty hall, with its striking italianate-patterned polished marble floor.
Though beauty dominates, the floor was shared with sunglasses and fashion jewellery. HMKM designed the bespoke fixtures allowing brands an element of personalisation through colour and finishes.
The sunglasses area, designed by HMKM for David Clulow is an island site. A cluster of slimline vertical units of varying heights, like a city skyline, are arranged around a horizontal sunglass bar with pop up display devices.
