French business magnate, investor and art collector Bernard Arnault commissioned American architect Frank Gehry to design the Foundation Louis Vuitton. It rises up at the edge of the Jardin d' Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne, where its curves and lines play with transparency to form a dramatic architectural expression in the dense tree linked parkland. The building itself is the initial artistic gesture of a new key location for contemporary art. The new building will be home to a yearlong international programme of events embracing the diversity of linguistic and artistic creation of the 20th and 21st century. As stated by Gehry "I dream of designing, in Paris, a magnificent vessel symbolising the cultural calling of France."
Walking around the building one is struck by the incredible complexity of converging forms, materials and light. A type of architectural expression which could only be realised with the use of modern computer aided design.
