Svenskt Tenn / Stockholm

Svenskt Tenn is Sweden’s most iconic design and interior decoration brand. It was founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson who recruited Austrian Architect Josef Frank to the company 10 years later. Together, the duo created a highly personal style that combined Viennese elegance with Swedish functionalism. The brightly coloured patterns and timeless interior design style pervade the collection to this day.

In redesigning their Strandvägen store in Stockholm, HMKM was entrusted with protecting the spirit of the brand whilst carrying out a major structural re-working of the building which included rationalising floor levels, opening up an atrium void and re-configuring the main staircase.

The open and levelled ground floor offers a feeling of discovery as visitors browse the different rooms, while strategically placed glass vitrines between the spaces improve sightlines and invite the customer to explore. Throughout, HMKM has ensured the heritage of the brand is an integral part of the retail experience and never more so than in the pewter and jewellery room which features a gleaming, pewter coloured metal ceiling that references the original 1927 showroom.
